A single embryonic cell may provide a plethora of information. DNA mapping enables embryologists in the IVF lab to pinpoint genetic issues via PGD as well as PGS. Couples at risk for chromosomal abnormalities and recurrent miscarriage benefit from preimplantation genetic screening, or PGS. This test allows us to identify embryos with Down’s syndrome or Turner syndrome. When one or both couples have an inheritable genetic disorder or a single gene deficiency, preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) is used.
